Club History
Ford
& Margaret Forster and Deb Martin founded the Mac Trackers Walking Club in
January 1991. They were introduced to the wonders of Volkswalking in Germany
where their daughter lived. At that very first club meeting Deb Martin was
elected club President.
The
Mac Trackers very first Volkswalk was held in May 1991 and was located in
Dayton, Oregon. It was called the “Dayton Mayor’s Walk” and was rated a 2.
In November of 1991, the club sponsored their second walk in Amity, Oregon and
called it the “Vintage Amity Walk” which was rated a 2+. At
the January 1992 meeting Joanne Granroth was elected club President and the
first walk for 1992 was the “Crimson Clover Walk rated a 2, held on May 30th
& 31st in Dayton, Oregon. In
July the Mac Trackers sponsored the “Turkey Walk” in McMinnville during the
Turkey Rama celebration. In December of 1992 the group sponsored the
“Weihnacht Fest-Christmas Lights Night Walk” in McMinnville. Margaret &
Ford provided a gold-rimmed glass stein brought all the way from Germany as an
award. In
January 1993, Margaret Forster was elected club President. Margaret held that
position for 11 years until 2004. Margaret has walked over 900 walks and Ford
has walked over 800 walks. While leading the club they organized a trip to Mt.
Rushmore in South Dakota. Over the years Margaret and Ford’s walking
adventures have taken them to 9 countries in all; Poland, Switzerland, Canada,
USA, Germany, Spain, Uruguay, Czech Republic and Italy. In
1994 Karen Fanning contacted Margaret about hosting a walk at the Amity Daffodil
Festival. In 1995 the very first Daffodil walk was held with over 900 participants. Now
in it’s 12th year, the Amity Daffodil Festival walks offer many
options and an opportunity to see the beautiful views of Yamhill County.
